Socio-Demographic and General Physical Risk Factors of Pre-Eclampsia in Pakistan

Objective: Multiple factors are known to increase the risk of developing pre-eclampsia, a major obstetric complication, but local data limited. The present study was conducted determine pre-eclampsia in pregnant women from population.Study Design: Cross-sectional study.Place and Duration Study: carried out Lahore, Pakistan, at University Health Sciences partnering institutes 1st July 2017 30th October 2021.Materials Methods: Pregnant females with (study group, n=45) healthy (control whose gestational age between 30-34 weeks were selected. Socio-demographic general physical characteristics noted. Mean ± Standard Deviation (SD) Median Inter Quartile Range (IQR) given based on normality distribution, group comparisons made using normality-appropriate statistical tests. Categorical variables expressed as frequencies percentages. chi-square test applied observe an association categorical variables. A p-value < 0.05 analyzed significant.Results: Pre-eclamptic had higher mean weight (kg, 73.48±6.35 vs.70.48±5.45, p= 0.018) BMI (kg/m2, 28.8±1.42 vs. 27.5±1.48, p =0.000). Similarly, blood pressures (mmHg)-both systolic diastolic also elevated (systolic 156.86±8.27 112.8±10.62, p=0.000; 106.9±11.66 74.0±10.27, p=0.000). Living extended family, being housewife, less outdoor activity, insufficient dairy consumption, prevalence hypertension, diabetes mellitus proteinuria edema significantly more frequent group.Conclusion: related social standing, demography, anthropometry associated pre-eclampsia. There is need for health policies aimed eliminating these reduce incidence health-economic burdens population.
